CETHO TEMPLE

Cetho is one of several temples built on the northwest slopes of Mount Lawu in the fifteenth century. By this time, Javanese religion and art had diverged from Indian precepts that had been so influential on temples styles during the 8-10th century. This area was the last significant area of temple building in Java before the island's courts were converted to Islam in the 16th century. The temples' distinctiveness and the lack of records of Javanese ceremonies and beliefs of the era make it difficult for historians to interpret the significance of these antiquities

 

 

 

SUKUH TEMPLE

Sukuh Temple is located on the west side of Mount Lawu in Sukuh Hamlet of Berjo Village, Ngargoyoso Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency in Central Java Province. The temple in constructed on an elevation of + 910 meters above sea level. This temple was discovered in damaged condition in 1815 by Johnson, then Resident of Surakarta during Raffles administration. Sukuh Temple was further investigated by Van der Vlis in 1842, the results of which were reported in Van der Vlis’ book entitled Prove Eener Beschrijten op Soekoeh en Tjeto. Further researching works were conducted by Hoepermans between 1864 and 1867, and were reported in a book entitled Hindoe Oudheiden van Java. In 1889, Verbeek performed inventory works on this temple, which was continued by Knebel and WF. Stutterheim through a research in 1910.

 

 

SARANGAN LAKE

Telaga Sarangan is also known as sand lake, is a natural lake that lies at the foot of Mount Lawu, Plaosan district , Magetan regency, East Java. Located about 16 kilometers west of the city Magetan, Sarangan is having 30 acres and and 28 meters depth. With air temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius, Telaga Sarangan able to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The atmosphere is obviously become the most interesting place for the downtown people.  

Telaga Sarangan is Magetan’s tourism. Around the lake, there are two star hotels, 43 motels, and 18 cottages. Beside hotels, there are also souvenir shop and food vendors. The visitors can enjoy the lake by renting the boat or horse riding over the lake or playing in the play ground or traditional market. For those who like to eat satay, here the visitors can eat rabbit satay which is become the characteristic of Sarangan.

 

 

UMBUL PONGGOK

THE ONLY ONE “FRESH WATER SNORKELING” CLOSE FROM SOLO
This pond is the only one spring that can use for snorkeling. Other spring can not use for snorkeling because too small. You can swim and learn diving in this place.

You visiting exotic place and so natural. Fresh water very refreshing. You also can see fish, sand and rock under the water. Just like in the sea.

 

 

JUMOG WATERFALL

Around the slopes of Mount Lawu, there is one hidden treasure that worth to be visited, which is Jumog Waterfall that precisely located on the slopes of Mount Lawu. This waterfall is has the same beauty with Grojogan Sewu waterfall in Tawang Mangu.

Jumog Waterfall is precisely located in the Village Berjo, District Ngargoyoso, Karanganyar. If you are from Solo, you can go to the majors Tawangmangu within approximately 40 km from Solo. The view of Jumog waterfall is very impressive, the source of water comes from the slopes of Mount Lawu and it makes sparkles like diamonds.      

 

 

GROJOGAN SEWU WATERFALL

Grojogan Sewu is one of the waterfalls are located in Central Java. Located in District Tawangmangu, Karanganyar regency, Central Java. Waterfalls Grojogan Sewu located on the slopes of Mount Lawu. Grojogan Sewu located about 27 km to the east of the City Karanganyar. Sewu Grojogan Waterfalls are part of the Forest Tourism Grojogan Sewu. Tawangmangu is a district in the vicinity of the slopes of Mount Lawu, Karanganyar regency, Central Java. The place is approximately 1.5 hours journey (50 km) east of the city of Solo. In Tawangmangu actually found many tourist attractions such as temples Sukuh, Cetho temples, waterfalls jumog, etc., but the most visited and most popular is Grojogan Sewu Waterfall. Kemuning tea plantation is managed by PT. Agro Kemuning Tourism located in Kemuning village, Ngargoyoso District, Karanganyar Regency on the height 1540 above sea level. This Tea plantation lies in the area between Sukuh Temple and Cetho Temple offers mountainous natural view with cool climate and the temperature around 22 Celsius degree.

Not only the overlay of green tea view, but also the tea pickers w ho wears caping and tenggok on their shoulder become amazing scene that cannot be found in the city . They start their activity since dawn until dusk carefully and patiently. Besides becomes tourism destination, this tea plantation is usually used as pre wedding photography location for its remarkable green view.

 

 

SEKIPAN HILL

Bukit Sekipan (Sekipan Hill) actually been around since the Dutch era, the area is used as a military training ground, but now Bukit Sekipan started receiving many tourists who are on vacation to Karanganyar.
